I guess I don't understand how 295 lbs is considered a "big" DT.

Now, Alan Branch is a big DT. Sammie Lee Hill is a big DT. Ricky Jean Francois is not any bigger than the guys we already have, and his production doesn't prove he's better either.

Alan Branch is 6'6 330, Sammie Hill is 6'4 330...I want one of them

I also think Terrance Knighton(6'3, 330) is an underrated FA that's flying under the radar. He got 2 sacks, 2 ff's, 32 tackles, and a Pdef in a limited role last year with the Jags. That's not bad. Comparing his 4 year career to Senderrick Marks 4 year career, Knighton has 4.5 more sacks than Marks and he also has about 40 more tackles..Marks has probably played more snaps than Knighton too.

I'm not saying small. But look at those names I said, they all seem to be bigger guys, and more importantly, definitely play bigger.

On that list I said, Ngata, JJ, Suh, Big Al, Wooly etc... they are all pretty much above 6'4 or 320 lbs...

Then in the instance of a taller DT you pair him up with a Martin/Casey, like we did with Big Al and Brown or the Williams brothers (Pat and Kevin).

Those DT pairs you just couldn't run against really - I considered them both 'big' but 'rangy' - again not all attributed to size they were talented big men. They are also built to last (assuming you don't have a Fat Al stomping ppl and looking to get paid) it seems.

With all that frenzy in the middle it frees DE's and blitzing guys b/c the OL is too worried about what's happening in the middle....

Comparing RJF stats to Marks would be unfair. Marks may have had some decent tackle numbers but he doesn't make game changing plays. He makes tackles 4-5 yards down the field and offers little to no pass rush for a DT his size. RJF played in a 3-4 his assignments were completely different than that of Marks who was single teamed on just about every play. RJF played end and nose tackle so he dealt with double teams on just about every play and the 9ers apparently trusted him to hold his ground against the double well enough regardless of his 295lb frame. That is good enough for me to warrant giving him a look to beef up our run defense. He played much better in the 4-3 anyway when he was at LSU.

Terrence Knighton is a fat piece of ****. Dude has had weight problems in Jacksonville his entire career and got benched in 2012 because of ineffectiveness. Benched on a 2-12 team with no defensive linemen.
