Coach Mike Munchak said he expects to hear from the NFL regarding Kenny Britt’s situation prior to the league’s final cut deadline on Aug. 31. “I think that will be something that about a week from now, we’ll know more,” Munchak said Friday.

A timely decision on whether Britt will be suspended or not following eight run-ins with the law – including a recent DUI charge – would be beneficial to the Titans, as a potential suspension would likely affect their choices in trimming the roster to 53 players.

The wide receiver mix was complicated further during Thursday’s preseason game, when Marc Mariani suffered a broken leg, ending his season. The primary receiving group now consists of four healthy players – Nate Washington, Damian Williams, Lavelle Hawkins and rookie Kendall Wright.

Britt is the wild card, since he’s still recovering from knee surgeries and because of the potential suspension. Munchak said he’d prefer to know more about Britt’s status before considering whether to add another experienced receiver.

“As we find out more about (Britt’s) situation by the end of the week, then we’ll have to decide if we think we’re short-handed or not,” Munchak said. “We’ve got four guys that played last year and played very well. We lost Marc who was that fifth guy last year. We’re hoping it’s either Kenny in that mix or one of our young guys once we find out what’s going on with Kenny.”

Other receivers in camp who could be called upon for more action include Michael Preston, James Kirkendoll, D.J. Woods, Devin Aguilar, Marcus Harris and Chase Deadder. Said Munchak: “We have a lot of guys here on the roster that might help us in a more limited role, kind of what Marc would have been doing for us.”
