Titans defensive tackle Jurrell Casey isn’t backing down from his preseason goal of 19 sacks.

He wants to get there, because it would eclipse the total of Keith Millard, the Titans’ defensive assistant/pass rush specialist who still holds the NFL record for sacks in a season by a defensive tackle.

While with the Vikings, Millard had 18 sacks in 1989.

“I am going to get to 19. I am going to try and get to 19, that’s for sure,’’ Casey said with a smile on Monday. “And I’m not going to stop until I get there. If it’s not this year, for sure, next year – I am going to keep pushing until I get there.”

Casey had two sacks in Sunday’s win against the Rams, and now leads the Titans with six on the season. At the season’s halfway point, he’s on pace for 12 sacks.

Coach Mike Munchak called Casey the team’s consistent pass rusher this season.

“I am excited about how (Jurrell) is playing,’’ Munchak. “From the day we got him here, I knew we got a very good football player. He is a complete player and he loves to play. … He works at it every day, and he’s having a great year.”

Casey had two sacks in the season opener against the Steelers, and had one sack in two other games this season, including the October 20 contest against the 49ers.

He wants to make a big impact in the second half of the season. According to Pro Football Focus, Casey has 30 disruptions on 248 pass rush attempts this season, which is way up from last year.

“I need to have more games with multiple sacks and make multiple disruptions,’’ Casey said. “I just want to keep it going.”

It would be nice to have Casey get pressure all season but I'd like to see him hold up better against the run too.

Why would he need him to have so many sacks, when we have Derrick Morgan on pace for a BLAZING 4 sacks this year?!?!

    Gotta share the wealth, Derrick.

But Morgan draws quadruple teams and still almost touches the QB.

Pitotuie or however you spell that poor dudes name, is equally as good as Morgan. That to me means don't dare pay Morgan some cray cray contract.
