Are you serious right now? I agree with you that Big Albert was important, yes I see that our W/L record suffered immensely when he was out, but he did not make the defense great alone.

Think about the worst NFL defense's last season.. put 2008 Haynesworth on that team and they will not become an elite defense. They'll get a lot better, sure, but not nearly as good as we were. Imagine Haynesworth in his prime on our defense last season.. our secondary would have still been torn to shreds, and our D overall would have been around average.. not anywhere near the top 5.

My point is we had really good players on the defensive side of the ball. Schwartz executed a fine defensive scheme in 2007 and 2008, along with very good play calling.. both of which Gray has lacked thus far. We held the soon to be super bowl champs Steelers in week 16 to 13 points without Haynesworth or KVB on the field.. why? DUE TO SCHWARTZ.

It's you who is having a bad day arguing lol.. either that or you're just trolling.

BS!!!! Dude Harper was a scrub at the end of his career and finnegan was average. We have two capable corners now and the same safety. Kearse was washed up then, in fact he wasnt even on the team in 07 i dont think, KVB was average. If you put that Haynesworth on the line with Morgan and Wimbley and say a rush specialist like klug, your talking an all pro dline right there and top 5 defense easily!!!

You do realize that most of everyone on this board wanted Schwartz fired before Haynesworth broke out! Also the only reason why Schwartz has had success in Detroit is because of Suh's play.

LOL the addition of a prime Haynesworth on our defense would turn us from the 31st overall defense to a top 5 defense.. see that's where I get the idea that you're just trolling me. I use Detroit as an example of how having JUST a dominate defensive lineman does not make the entire defense.. Detroit's defense is not very good at all, they win with their offense.

I have read old boards about firing Schwartz and I find it ironic because he ended up being a good coordinator. I bet a lot of us would love to have him back in Nashville if the Grey/Williams stuff doesn't work out. The Coordinator is the most important piece to any defense.. not a player.

Wrong in the NFL with players at such a high level, success depends mainly on how good are your players. Now play calling on offense is a different story. Defense it's mainly just your scheme that matters the most. Good players will make a poor coordinator look average!

I think it's the other way around.. defense is harder than offense, and there is no overly dominate position like on offense with the QB. Sometimes on offense you can get away with letting your All-Star QB and WRs just go play ball, not the case on defense. You can have great players but if the scheme isn't there, you will be picked apart all day long.

This is what I've been trying to get across. We had a great scheme in 07-08 with Schwartz, as he was a good coordinator. It was not Haynesworth alone that made our defense so good. We have enough talent to be a top 15-10 defense, but we have to get the right scheme going. That's why I'm hoping Williams will incorporate his stuff (which is far superior to Gray's) into our defense, thus making it a lot better, even with the same players for the most part.

Our scheme on defense was to get pressure on the qb with just the front 4. This allowed to drop everyone else back in coverage. We were only able to do that because we had Haynesworth who demanded a double team!

Also what I was refering to on offense is that you can have crappy players and if you make good calls or come up with a good system you can make those players look really good and be successfull.

Well yeah that was the basic idea, but there is a lot more too it than that lol. If being a coordinator was that simple, anyone could do it! HEY JUST RUSH THE FOUR LINEMEN, THE REST OF YOU COVER AND WE'LL WIN GAMES. no.

Gray played all of last season as if we could get pressure with just the front four, like we used to be able to. We can't obviously, and since he practically never blitzed we never got any pressure, and our average DBs got torn to shreds. And we also played ten yards off every time, giving the WRs free releases. I'm familiar with the theory but it's not a good one, plus it's not a good option in today's NFL with these freak of nature QBs, WRs, and TEs.

Actually with a guy like Haynesworth playing like he was, it was that easy. It was hey front four get pressure and the rest cover and tackle!

I remember seeing Fat Al take on 5 blockers (3 linemen 2 RB's), and still knock the QB on his back
