First-round pick Kendall Wright is expected to start in his first NFL game on Sunday against the Patriots, and the Titans are confident the rookie wide receiver can make a big impact early.

After falling behind early in training camp while waiting on his contract to be finalized, Wright caught up fairly quickly. He’s made great strides on the practice field and in the meeting rooms. But offensive coordinator Chris Palmer cautioned that Wright remains a work in progress.

“You ask him, and he is ready to go,” Palmer said of Wright. “If you ask the coach, he needs a little more work right now. He is a young player. A lot of teams think receivers have to come in and sit for a year or two or three before they play. We are counting on Kendall to come in and play right away, and he’ll grow as a player every game.”

Wright, who had a team-leading nine catches for 116 yards and a touchdown in the preseason, said physically he’s never felt better. Dating back to his days in high school, Wright said he’s never been in better shape.

“The work I did before I came here, and taking a lot of reps in practices, that’s gotten me ready,” Wright said. “I feel like I’ll be able to play with a lot of energy and a lot of excitement. I’m looking forward (to Sunday).”

With Britt out, he has a chance to get some attention if the Pats pass D is as bad as it was last season.

The nice thing about Wright starting in Britt's place is that he has better chemistry with Locker. Kenny Britt sat out a lot of last years training camp with a hamstring injury, and was on I.R.by the time Jake started playing last year.

I think those stats are realistic expectations for Wright. I see him being targeted as much as anyone.

We didn't even get our yearly pre-season "Flight of the Hawk"...where Lavell jumps over someone every pre-season and fools us into thinking he's actually good!

If Wright is sooo slow, then why does he have Belichick talking about him being a vertical threat?
