The Refs

I think we witnessed a year full of bonehead calls (or in our case, noncalls) from the refs this year and something should be done about it. Refs are starting to be like weathermen. They can make mistakes all they want without losing their jobs. If I made that many mistakes, I'd have been fired long ago.

 

Completely agree.

Full time, higher paid referees. Younger. More athletic. And eyesight tests.

 

Eyesight tests. That's brilliant. (No sarcasm here)

 

As technology continues to improve, our perception of referee quality will go down. If we at home can see things on TV that the refs may not have an angle on, it's not their fault if 1 ref makes 2-3 wrong split-second decisions out of hundreds if not thousands over a season. It's the NFL's for not implementing the technology at field level.

Let's face it, the way the game is, no ref can call everything perfectly. There will be times when refs are simply out of position. However, it's unfathomable that refs can be standing right next to the play...be looking at the key issue (let's say whether a wr was in bounds or not) and STILL make the wrong call!!!

So the refs need to be upgraded by becoming fulltime employees and being held accountable (ala BENCHED), but they also need to overhaul the replay system. A clock situation should be reviewable (as in our situation) as well as a receiving team (in a punt sit) personal foul should result in the punting team being given a first down as opposed to losing possession and then changing field position by 15 yards. Furthermore, refs should be rated on consistency of calls. There were fews calls in the first quarter of certain things which were then called much stricter later in the game. That's wrong.

But the challenge system should give you two challenges. For every challenge you get right, you get another challenge. Based on this last season, the coaches need it!
