"The Paolantonio Report: The Most Overrated and Underrated Players, Teams, Coaches, and Moments in NFL History"

    Anyone read this garbage?

I was at a friend's the other week and saw this laying around. I figured it may be interesting and decided to scan through it.

Unfortunately, Mr. Sal Paolantonio is a douchebag.

He claims that Jeff Fisher is one of the most overrated coaches of all time... good call, turd! Not! He claims that the Titans are fools for keeping the guy for so long. I guess he doesn't realize how important continuity is. I guess he was a fan of the Marty Schottenheimer firing... because that would be the same thing as firing Fisher. Who are you going to get that's better? No one. No one better is ever available. 101 wins (including playoffs) in the last 10 seasons... and you think that's overrated, Sal? Turn in your resignation because you suck! Jeff Fisher has done more with less than almost any coaches have done. While you're overrating coaches, why don't you go ahead and overrate Bill Parcells since his win percentage is barely better than Fisher's.

He claims that Barry Sanders is overrated... really? So how have the Lions done without him? Was he not their whole team during his career, Sal?

I wish I had borrowed it so I could diagnose more of the crap. He has a few ideas that are on par i.e. Norv Turner being overrated and Brett Favre being overrated. Most of it is garbage. The reviews on amazon tend to agree with me.

Next time I go my friend's, I'll borrow the book, read it in its entirity, and discuss more of the garbage. He claims Randy Moss is overrated and Adam Vinateiri's game winning field goal in Super Bowl XXXVI is the most underrated moment of all time. You can make arguments for those two, I suppose, but I'll make sure to read more over the garbage.

I sort of lost interest after seeing Jeff Fisher overrated and Barry Sanders overrated.

Name 5 current coaches who are better.

I've never heard anyone give him extreme praise that could lead anyone to believe he's overrated. He may still have a job after 14 seasons, but like I said, who could we get that's any better? No one. Maybe if Bill Cowher or Tony Dungy decide to come out of retirement, I'd maybe want a change at head coach.

That is the gist of it.

Fisher is generally regarded as one of the NFL's top active coaches. If you say Jeff is overrated, and can't name 5 coaches who are better than him, your argument fails.

    5 better coaches?

    Belichick
    Tony Sparano
    Mike Smith
    John Harbrough
    John Fox
(oh look, I'm already at 5...)
    Tom Coughlin
    Mike Tomlin
Andy Reid (eh... close one here)

Then there are those that he's equal with...

    Sean Payton
    Norv Turner
    Lovie Smith

So after one season of coaching, Tony Sparano, John Harbaugh, and Mike Smith have won you over?

    Bill Belichick? Yes

    Tom Coughlin? Yes

Mike Tomlin? No... He is a good guy, but the guy's decisions on the field are horrible. Anyone remember his decision to go for it on 4th & goal against the Chargers in the playoffs? At this time, I believe there was about 8 minutes left and they were up by 11. A field goal gives you a 2 TD lead, instead he tries to be greedy - going for the TD - and fails. When I was watching that game I said he was a moron if he didn't kick a field goal... It had nothing to do with hindsight. I was saying it from the get-go. The Cowher/Tomlin effect is the same concept as the Dungy/Gruden effect. Tomlin won with Cowher's team. Gruden won with Dungy's team. It's that simple.

John Fox? No... I'd say they're equal coaches. Look at the head to head matchups. Fox gets beatdown against Fisher.

    Andy Reid? Yes

I agree with Lovie Smith being equal, but Sean Payton and Norv Turner are not Fisher material.
