This comes up every year, so let's just get it over with.

Grays defense was less than impressive (it was actually less than bad) in 2012. At the same time I read it was the first time Titans had 2 LBs with over 5 sacks a piece. So...
Our defensive line isn't impressive. We have ok pass-rushing DEs (one could grow in to a star), but one is undersized and a liability against the run. We have a bunch of young DT, a mix of stuffers and rushers. Plug in a big NT and rotate Morgan, Martin, Klug, Casey and perhaps Marks and Clayton in a 3 man front, I don't think that so bad.

On LB we have Ayers and Wembley on the outside and Brown and McCarthy on the inside. (Or Ayers and Brown could switch). Add a couple of players to the mix (McCarthys durability) from FA or draft and it ain't looking bad.

We still need a couple of pieces, but I think it could utilize the strength or our current "front 7" better.

The backfield needs improvement no matter what, 1 or 2 safeties that can cover, hit and tackle. Perhaps add an outside corner to the competition, but they seem high om Campbell. If only he can limit his stupid penalties. Verner, Sensabaugh, Mouton completes the depth chart.

But after all, it's a matter of.... schema. And we need a new one. And a few players. And it's more or less the same kind of players we lack, whether it's 4-3 or 3-4. We still need a big run stuffer, we still need better and consistent pass rush from the outside. The depth just isn't there right now.

I think you mean liability instead of liason. but yes, I agree.

McCarthy is too undersized to play ILB in a 34.

Casey and Martin could play 5 tech on a 34 line but they arnt the breed of 5 techs that are dominating. JJ watt style. They would be primarily run stuffers. A big NT would be a huge need. Along with figuring out who to play at ILB... Ayers would become the rush LB. wimbley could play opposite and switch. Brown probably would have to play as the space ILB, we would still need a big 250 LB run stuffer for the middle.

In the end I think it's too much work to retool the entire front seven. Morgan and wimbley were both top ten in the league in QB hurries. Martin was on pace to make a difference at DT, but got limited snaps.

Morgan might be able to succeed at a 5 tech. He is like 280 and was coming into his own this season.

    Yeah... McCarthy is 6-1, 238.

    Larry Foote is 6-1, 239. Timmons is 6-1, 234.
    Bowman is 6-0, 242. Willis is 6-1, 240.
    Ellerbee is 6-1, 240.

    True, Roid Cusing is 6-3, 255. Ray-ray is 6-1, 250, Fletcher is 5-10, 248.

Sorry, the size argument doesn't hold up.

Maybe? But he looks a lot smaller than any of the cats you mentioned. And he is also terrible at getting off blocks, which is what he would be forced to do in a 34.

Sorry but I'd rather have the larger ILB.

Morgan would be at his best as a 3-4 DE, I think. He could pack on another 10 pounds, and be good, because he's not a great pass rushing DE, but can get a push.

Eh, he hasn't been great, but he turned it on this season... I've stated a few times on here, but he and wimbley both produced top ten in QB hurries. Morgan was the most improved. Plus he was solid against the run. But yea I think he could succeed at 5 tech
