I've been going back and forth on whether we should pick up a QB with our #8 pick or go defense... There just isn't a QB that I really want in the bunch. There's a few guys I'd be content with but nobody that I think is worth a #8 pick...

So the logic there says go defense... but if we do, I'm pretty sure Munchak would be forced to pick up a QB in the 2nd round, which is even worse. I feel we'd be completely wasting the pick on Ponder or Kaepernick. Maybe if Mallett drops to the 2nd round I'd be interested... but again, its a huge leap to hope for someone like Locker or Mallett to be available in the 2nd round and you can't really make a gamble like that without a QB on the roster.

The other way... we take the QB we like best in the 1st (Locker, Mallett, Newton or Gabbert) and take the best defensive player on the board at #40. The good thing about that is we have so many needs on defense, there will likely be a good S, LB or DT on the board. Not as good as a #8 pick but at least we're not forced to pick a specific position and we can be a little flexible based on whats left on the board.

I'm probably leaning towards drafting a QB at #8 and best defensive player on the board at #40. What are your thoughts?

I wish the CBA could get settled before the draft since that will determine what we do.
Right now I look for the Titans to draft a defensive player in the first round and a QB in the 2nd round. If we do it that way then the Titans will resign Collins unless a trade happens after the CBA is finalized.

the thing is, the players that you've listed (except newton and gabbert) will probably be in the second round as well.. i don't think many teams after the 15th pick are going to go with a QB in the first round

Locker and Mallett? I highly doubt Locker will be available in the 2nd round. If he's on the board, Seattle will probably take him at 25. I can see him going top 15 as well.

Mallett may be due to all the red flags and I'd be pretty happy with a defensive pick 1st round and Mallett 2nd round. I'd just hate to be stuck in a situation where we haven't drafted a QB and the top 4 are off the board.

Meh, let's go with Prince if he's there. Also, I can't believe some of the idiots that are saying Fairley will fall to pick 8. I have a better chance of never watching porn again.

He is a one year wonder, his football character is questionable, he is a little undersized for his position, and Dareus is generally considered a much more versatile DT.

It isn't unreasonable to think that he drops to 8, especially if some of these teams really like the QB's and/or WR's up top.

and Von Miller isn't? The guy is a rusher, that's it. He's been over-exaggerated in the press and isn't as good as people say in coverage. Not to mention he's undersized.

If what you say about him is true, and I'm not disagreeing, then why would we want him at 8?
