I completely understand the frustration, but you can't assume outcomes. What if hightower and williams wanted to stay put? What if the Titans wanted to stay away from one year wonders or risky players? If williams would have moved teams, I'd agree with you. If any of these guys were on top of thier positions, I'd agree with you. But the fact is there were very few "good" fas available and a bunch of teams with money. Watch bouye, Jeffery and pryor all play like crap this year. Then what will yall be saying? Obviously jrob is at least decent at his job, because we are a much better team in just one year.

So you don't give Mularkey any credit for changing the culture of this team and implementing and following thru with a team identity and an actual offensive system, albeit antiquated?

Brandon Williams and Hightower were tops at their respective positions, as did many think Bouye too. If you arent gonna spend money on top free agents, you're never gonna get top free agents.

Is it possible Hightower and Williams wanted to stay with their teams and just use the market to drive up their price? Yes. But that happens less frequently with teams that aren't from winning teams. Even players coming off winning a SB have the focus of getting paid! So I could see Hightower wanting to return for the right price, but BWilliams would probably have gone to the highest bidder as long as it wasn't a terrible team. Didn't Pryor take a 1 yr deal? Bouye was underpaid at $10mil. If JRob thinks his one year of stellar play is too risky, aren't we taking the same risk with someone in the draft? Granted they wouldn't be getting paid as much, but we will invest in draft capital...something we have a lot LESS of than extra money floating around.

An extra $24mil carry over means we were undermanned by $24mil last year. You might notice the top teams spend all or close to all of their cap. That's a big advantage ON THE FIELD while chunks of our money sits in the bank not helping us! And there were plenty of free agents who could have been acquired last off-season too!

And just so we can put this argument to bed: we will need to sign Lewan to a long-term deal in 3 years? What would that entail? a 5 yr 75mil contract? How much of that comes up front? 20mil on day 1?

Same thing for Mariflota the following year, maybe 25mil day 1?

My point is that carrying over 70million in salary cap because "You have to re-sign such and such player" is a false argument. The salary cap raises so teams can re-sign star players and still be able to dabble in Free Agency. What we are seeing from the Titans is just pure not spending, for no reason.

If the Titans won't spend now when they don't have big contracts to restructure or stars to re-sign, what makes you think they'll ever spend when they do have to restructure and re-sign? You can't use the excuse all the time.

We are actually in a great spot. We'll be able to sign all our key players EASILY, and structure their contracts to take advantage of the cash we are carrying over.

We'll also still maintain the ability to sign a couple 'Logan Ryans' and 'Rishard Mathews' each year as well.

And when JRob sees fit, he'll go after a big fish or two as well...

He's not trying to rush into spending or buying a ring, this guy is in it for the long hall to really build something that lasts.

Probably why we're not breaking the bank for FAs... smart, long-term strategy.

If there was anyone worth a damn I'd agree, but this FA class SUCKED!

So saving for a rainy day is the right move IMO

He SHOULD be rushing to get any great free agent that can help us on the field! The clock is ticking!!! Mariota has limited time before you have to pay him big bucks and then each year it gets more difficult because he and Lewan's contracts will be expanding. Plus, how many more years will Casey be what he is right now? How much longer does Delanie have?

We missed some great opportunities last year and some good one's this year. What are we waiting for? I'm not suggesting we spend $100mill in FA, but we had some key good guys we could have had that could pay big dividends ON THE FIELD!!!

How long of a strategy? Like when Mariota is making $25mil/year and we don't have a ton of a cap space anymore???
