Safety Michael Griffin dodges fine this time

    Titans safety Michael Griffin worried about a potential fine from the NFL for his hit in Sunday’s game. This time, it looks like he escaped unscathed.

    “No mail for me,’’ Griffin said. “So I’m good.”

    Players usually find out about fines from the NFL by Wednesday.

    Griffin was penalized 15 yards for unnecessary roughness when officials ruled he led with his helmet while hitting Bills receiver Stevie Johnson. Earlier in the season, Griffin was fined $21,000 for a similar hit in the Minnesota game.

    Griffin said he knew it was a good play on his part.

    “I am just waiting to hear back on my appeal from the other one,’’ Griffin said. “They said I hit him helmet-to-helmet and I said “I hit him in the helmet and led with my shoulder pads.”

    I was seriously going to lose it if he got fined for that hit, and I fully expected him too.

    Most ridiculous penalty I've seen this year [on us]. Impossible to play defense now, and the game suffers tremendously.
