Run game remains solid

    CINCINNATI The Titans struggled early in the run game against the Bengals but gradually picked up speed.

    Chris Johnson only gained three yards on his few carries but finished with 30 yards on seven carries. Shonn Greene’s punishing style proved more effective, as he finished with six carries for 29 yards.

    Jackie Battle was effective with his straightforward style in the third quarter, finishing with 12 carries for 58 yards.

    Overall, the Titans churned out 30 carries for 143 yards (4.8 average), a week after rushing for 126 against the Redksins.

    Greene got some “tough yards,” Johnson said. “Anytime you have guys running downhill, like Shonn Greene and Jackie Battle, little (defenders) don’t want to hit. A fast guy like me that can come in and try to take one to the house is a good thing.”

    This was by far the best thing about the game last night. The OLINE seems to be coming together. When you have a whole new interior OL sometimes it can take awhile for them to get in sync, but they have done a really nice job in these first 2 games.

    Warmack looked very solid last night. He buried a couple of guys when he pulled on a few runs. His pass pro was just fine as well.

    If we are going to win games this year it is going to be because of the running game. We have got to sustain drives and keep our awful defense off the field. To this end though the offense has to be able to finish drives. Settling for FGs is not going to get it done.

    We won a lot of games in the past depending on our run game. Don't know why this year would be any different. We'll run to open up the past and hopefully by mid season Locker will be in stride.

    I think CJ's gonna have a lot of long runs this season and Greene's gonna be a workhorse. Should definitely help us late in the game.

    well they need to pick starters and get them rolling together consistently. This swapping Centers every game needs to end to do that.

    I really like Battle...he's a lot like Greene. Downhill runners that punish the defenders. Cut Parmele.
