It was a poor night for Titans special teams, as Rob Bironas had a field-goal attempt blocked and Brett Kern produced a couple of uncharacteristically poor punts.

Kern’s second bad punt – a 19-yarder — almost proved critical for the Titans, as it gave the Jets possession at the Tennessee 25 with 47 seconds remaining in the game. Fortunately for the Titans, Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez fumbled the ball away on the next play.

“You thought at first glance on that last one that maybe someone got a hand on it,” Titans coach Mike Munchak said of Kern’s second bad punt. “They didn’t. I think he hurried up his mechanics and mis-hit it. Kickers don’t do that very often. That was a kick that we needed. It put the defense in a tough spot.”

In the third quarter, Kern had booted a 30-yard punt from the Titans’ 5, giving the Jets the ball at Tennessee’s 35. It took the Jets just four plays to score a touchdown and take a 10-7 lead.

Overall, Kern had 10 punts for a net average of 36.4 yards.

Looked like running into the kicker on the last punt. That would've given a retry.

Then they could have kicked a field goal to win it.....so, yeah probably not a good idea.

Kern has been solid for us his entire career, he was overdue for a bad night.

If we lost last night Kern would have to go. Simply can't have punters shanking 20 yard punts from their own end zone with less then a minute left

any explaination for why Bironas was running onto the field and did not have time too do the 'stomp the turf go back 2 steps now 2 steps left' thingy before the blocked FGA that ruined the first drive?

RB just ran onto the field and then a couple of seconds later the ball was snapped...

I want an explaination for that one. Either RB was unaware of the game situtation or coach Lowry was unaware of the game situtation or DL/MM/whoever messed up the call - Something went wrong there

They said something on tv about he was having trouble with his helmet. They should have just called a timeout and let him get ready
