Of course the fact that he was a celebrity household name has a lot to do with the sympathy. Everybody loved the guy. He entertained millions over the years... so yea, he gets more of a pass for his contributions than some suicidal loser from Knoxville who did meth and had no teeth would have. You can't pretend to know what was going on in his head. The bigger issue here is that he likely wasn't getting enough help from his family, friends, and doctors. Everyone close to him knew he was depressed... I guess they just didn't think he was depressed enough to kill himself.
