im just saying if your reason for not taking him is the guys before him have been bad, that's not valid in my mind.

by that logic larry johnson should not be an elite back, because typically penn state runningbacks are terrible.

Look, CJ is a stud. There hasn't been a receiver in history as solid of a prospect as him. There is no flaw at all there. It would take an absolute act of God for him to not make at least 5 pro bowls. He is a lock to Tampa at 4 if he doesn't go earlier. Our draft position is really hurting us as far as moving up that far. I don't really have a good solution other than offering our 1st 2nd both 4ths and next years 1st and 3rd. I have no idea what that equals on the chart but I have a feeling we'd still be short. The main reason, though, is because next year's draft isn't valued as highly as this years. The Bucs, a team that needs to get younger for the long run, might see this as a good opportunity. I don't know if it would be a great opportunity for us, though... as scary as it is to think about, we are one VY injury away from being a 1 or 2 win team. That would be the number 1 overall pick next year. Overall, CJ is the prospect of prospects but I couldn't pull the trigger even if an opportunity did arise.

According to my calculations (which I posted earlier) trading our first and second this year as well as next year's first rounder would get us enough to move up to #3. Of course I'm basing that on what I read somewhere that they assign future picks the value of the middle pick in the round, so I'm not sure if that holds true, but I'd be willing to trade that for CJ if he's still there at #3.

Sure, I'd do it, but what happens when he becomes a UFA? We're screwed if he is the next big thing at the WR position. Especially if he demands money we can't give or find ourselves in cap hell and have to cut him. It would be painful to see that unfold after giving up all that. The tandems you list were not all first rounders I believe, so you can find your star anywhere in the draft.

out of all the positions I would want a stud at to compliment Vince, ironically WR is not at the top...

just off the top of my mind...

Positions I would want a stud (pro-bowl, all-nfl type of player) at to compliment vince:

    1.) Tackle
    2.) RB
    3.) Guard
    4.) Center
    5.) WR
    6.) Kick/Punt returner

and that wasn't even taking into consideration defense, which may be more valuable to vince since a good defense doesn't force him into digging out of a deficit constantly...

in short, i'm just not sold that an elite WR gets us the most bang for the buck when our team is centered around vince...

I do it CJ is the best WR to ever come out of college. He's a freak.

    yeah i agree...
i'd do it in a heartbeat... then we could trade up again to mid/early 2nd with whats left and go for a DE.... i guess that would leave us with what...a 6th? get garrett wolfe... then see what happens at safety and corner after the june 1st cuts
