I bet U-571 sounds amazing...the depth charge scenes will be a good demo for any subwoofer one has. I would buy that when it hits Blu Ray for sure.

I think that blu-ray may end up being the format unless something else comes out, which it probably will....

if i were to get an external hard drive would i be able to save data from my ps3 onto it, or does it only operate the other way around? (ie. uploading movies, music and pics.)

I can weigh pro's and con's. At least I see that PS3 is trying. They just need games for their gaming console and they'll be ok.

From my understanding the Blu-Ray is obliterating HD-DVD (no doubt due to a PS3 having a player)

It's really no difference in cost to you guys if you convert from US to AU dollars plus what a person earns and cost of living is higher here I believe.

from what I was hearing in BB yesterday, HD-DVD has more options than Blu-Ray. for instance, alot of the special features that you'd find (say on the 2nd dis of a 2 disc special edition) are on the HD-DVD but not the BluRay

one reason why BluRay seems to be a little more popular at the moment is due to the fact that more studios have signed up for publication. Their ace in the hole is Disney. I think the guy said the ratio is like 3:1
I know that the ratio of available shelf space for BluRay over HD-DvD was 5:1

I know alot of the reasons that you might find more special features on some HD-DVD's is that many of them are in SD.

I think with the prices coming down, the PS3 and the biggest video rental house committing to Blu-ray, I think right now it has the easy edge.

I haven't tried it yet, but I have plugged a jump drive up to it and saved some game data on to it. So, my answer is yes. Though, you would have to copy the files that you are currently using to the PS3 for use. But, an external hard drive would work fine for "storage purposes." I downloaded the NCAA 08 rosters from a site (http://www.ncaastrategies.com/index.php?page=rosters) and transfered them via jump drive to the PS3. It worked quite well. I like the new flexibility of the PS3.

so i would be able to store things on the external, but i would have to then save the item i would want to use onto the internal ps3 hard drive, correct?

the only reason i ask is because i have the 60 gig hard drive ps3, but with the possibilty of the tivo function coming out there is no way im going to have enough space on the internal hard drive for game data and titan games.
