Late round DT prospect Everette Pedescleaux, Northern Iowa

    http://www.tfydraft.com/player_info.php?draftID=7853

    6'6" 305lbs

    "Bio

Awarded all-Conference and All-America honors as a senior after posting career-high numbers of 62/11.5/6.5. Did not start a game as a junior and totaled 22/4.5/3. Has blocked three kicks in college. Began his college career at Minnesota.

    Positives

Tall, explosive athlete fluid moving about the field. Plays with leverage, displays good overall quickness in his game and gets off the snap with a terrific first step. Keeps his pads low to the ground, shows a burst of speed and works his hands throughout the action, displaying an array of moves to protect himself or get off blocks. Consistently gets up the field and omnipresent in the opponent's backfield.

    Negatives

Easily help of the point of attack by a single blocker. Possesses only a short area burst of speed Does not consistently play with a sense of urgency.

    Analysis

Pedescleaux is a physically talented prospect with an NFL body and the ability to get bigger and stronger as he physically matures. He's a streaky player who seemingly turns it on in off at will, disappearing at times after he's made several game changing plays. Pedal offers the skill to be used at several positions on the defensive line including a two gap system. If he dedicates himself to football and concentrates on the task at hand he will be successful. Otherwise Petal will bounce from camp to camp. "

    From Si.com:

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/football/nfl/03/20/riser.sliders/index.html

"Connor Barwin/DL-OLB/Cincinnati: Barwin proved himself to be first-round worthy at last month's combine and on Thursday erased any remaining doubt he deserves to be a top 32 selection. Barwin improved his 40 time from Indianapolis, posting 4.48 seconds. He then put on a show for scouts in the position drills. The former tight end worked out with the offensive linemen to show his blocking prowess and with the receivers to display his pass catching skills. Barwin also did defensive line and linebacker drills. He's getting a lot of interest from teams who select in the late part of round one such as the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins."

"Eron Riley/WR/Duke: Riley, considered by most as a possession receiver, shocked scouts with his speed. He measured 6-3, 206 then blistered in the 40, clocking times which ranged between 4.30 and 4.36 . He posted a vertical jump of 40 inches and broad jump of 11-2. Riley then displayed the consistent hands he was known for at Duke during the position drills."

"TJ Lang/OL/Eastern Michigan: Lange was a surprise non-invite at last month's combine but gave scouts something to remember on Monday. The Eastern Michigan tackle measured 6-foot-4 and 316 pounds, completed 30 reps on the bench then ran his 40s in times which ranged from 5.15-to-5.19. He displayed a lot of skill snapping the ball at center, a position several teams project him. Lang is building a buzz around himself and in all likelihood will be the first non-combine player drafted, possibly as early as the late part of round two."

"Javon Ringer/RB/Michigan State: Ringer, who had been suffering with a knee injury the past four months, turned in a great workout in East Lansing on Wednesday. Ringer posted 40 times between 4.42-to-4.47 seconds, three cone times between 6.68-to-6.75 seconds and a blistering 3.72-to-3.83 seconds in the short shuttle. Later, Ringer looked spectacular catching the football.

Brandon Underwood/DB/Cincinnati: Underwood is the least heralded defensive back from Cincinnati yet proved to be the fastest on pro day. His 40 times were as low as 4.41 and he looked terrific in position drills. The ability to effectively play cornerback or safety sets Underwood apart from many defensive backs in the draft."

"Jaron Glibert/DL/San Jose State: Gilbert put on a show for scouts last Friday and stamped himself as one of the more athletic big men in the draft. The 284-pound lineman posted times as fast as 4.76 seconds in the forty, 4.40 in the short shuttle and 7.56 in the three-cone, marks which were far better than his performance at the combine. Gilbert was later run through defensive line drills by New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan and drew a lot of praise for his work."

"Shonn Greene/RB/Iowa: Greene turned in a terrific performance at the Iowa pro day Thursday, running much faster than his showing at the combine. Greene's forty times were between 4.53 and 4.56 seconds. He posted a 39-inch vertical jump, 10-foot-6 broad jump and completed 23 reps on the bench. Greene is now likely to be the fourth running back selected next month, somewhere early in round two."

"Josh Mauga/LB/Nevada: The Wolfpack linebacker looked sensational during his workout, even though he's still recovering from a torn pectoral muscle. Mauga measured 6-1½, 246, ran a 4.60 forty, posted a swift 4.28 in the short shuttle and 7.16 in the three cone. Scouts put him through a grueling session of linebacker drills, trying to break Mauga, who kept rising to the occasion. "

"J.D. Skoltnisky/DL/James Madison: Skoltnisky was a surprise junior entry into the draft but is giving scouts something to think about. The lineman measured 6-5½, 263, posted a 31.5-inch vertical jump and ran forty times of 4.72 and 4.76 seconds. His short shuttle time of 4.37 would've ranked him top three of all the defensive linemen at the combine while Skoltnisky's three cone time of 7.22 seconds would have been a top 10 performance in Indianapolis.

Lance Louis/OL/San Diego State: The former tight end who moved to the offensive line as a junior blew scouts away during his workout. Measuring 6-2½, 300, Louis ran a 4.71 and 4.72 after completing 30 reps on the bench. He also posted a vertical jump of 32½ inches.

Jamarca Sanford/S/Mississippi: Sanford showed he was the strongest defensive back at the combine by completing 29 reps on the bench. He displayed better than expected speed at his pro-day, timing in the mid-to-low 4.4s. Sanford was down five pounds (209) from his weigh-in at the combine.

Christopher Owens/CB/San Jose State: Owens improved from his solid showing at the combine, posting forty times in the low 4.4s besides turning in a 35-inch vertical jump. He's now poised to be a top-100 selection."

This is the problem with following players so closely. You watch a guy like Greene and you say to yourself...he's a first rnd talent. Some will drop him down because he's only done it one year...but he had to work himself back into football to have that chance. Then you see all the draft experts...he's a late second - third. Then you start HOPING...he's a steal at the end of rnd 2...could we drop down and get him early in rnd 3?

Then he runs a 4.5 40, 39 vert to make him comparable to Brown athletically. UGH!

I'm almost hoping Wells makes it to the Steelers cuz they need a Bus like back to team up with their speedy back and I don't want them taking Greene! He reminds me a lot of the Bus...but smaller.

    Yeah...

The ONLY way to make those kinds of numbers...drop .1 on the 40, in crease bench 2-14 reps, and 7 inches to your vertical WHILE gaining 11 lbs? Roids!

It doesn't sound like these guys were serious lifters and you don't come up with elite NFL numbers from just 7 weeks of training! The FACT that these guys were lazy before explains a LOT about UT last year. Talk about not getting your players on the right track!

It also disturbs me that they're calling Ayers combine a spectacular performance? A 4.90 40 is BAD. 18 reps is BAD. Sub 30" vert is bad. 8'6"broad jump is very bad for his size. Sammie Hill...at 330lbs broke 9'! A 7.56 cone is OK. A 4.51 shuttle is OK relative to his SLOW 40 time. Where was the GOOD???

Yeah. I was trying to stay positive, but I bet a lot of them "enhanced" themselves, not in the good way.

I really hope the league et al tighten the net. With all the baseball stuff, I'm sure it's only added pressure to come up with more "off-the-reservation" type stuff so it can't be detected. I hope all the offseason testing this year is very stringent. But if teams are smart, they should know who to stay away from.

"Oh. They sucked before, got good for a moment, and suck presently? Yeah...pass."

    Yeah...

NFL teams are WELL aware of roid-like 'symptoms.' No NFL trainer could get results like that for 7 weeks no matter how hard you worked out...mainly because you need recovery time...something roids take away!
