Titans rookie receiver Justin Hunter has gotten an earful in his first few months on the job, a good part of it constructive criticism intended to toughen him up.

Early on, veteran safety Bernard Pollard was one of the guys riding him.

Pollard has let up, and now he can’t praise Hunter enough.

“I can’t wait until Justin Hunter realizes that he is a star,’’ Pollard said. “I can’t wait until he realizes that. It is out of control how good that guy could be.”

Pollard said Hunter reminds him of Bengals receiver A.J. Green, who had 97 catches for 1,350 yards and 11 touchdowns last season.

Green, who’s 6-4, 207, has the same body type as Hunter.

After a shaky start to training camp, Hunter has made more plays in recent practices, something that’s gotten Pollard’s attention.

“When Justin realizes he can go in there and single-handedly destroy a defense, I think this team is going to be in for something,’’ Pollard said. “And we need Justin Hunter to perform now, we can’t wait. Because we are chasing that Lombardi Trophy and he’s the kind of guy who could help us get it.”

Good to hear, I knew Hunter had it in him, but it would take some time to adjust.

Once rookies come out of their shell, they can be great.

I love Hunter so hearing this is good news. I don't expect miracles his rookie season though.

Some good praise coming out of Pollard. Still can't imagine him and KB playing upto thier potential. That is just scary. Then throw in Kendall ...

Tavon Austin is a top 10 pick and a starter for the rams and he had 0 yards total in his first preseason game.

Hunter begins the year at best as our #4 WR so there is simply no reason to expect the guy to have big numbers.

Sounds like Pollard made him cry, and now he feels bad.

In all seriousness though, I think Hunter can be special, but it'll take a while; as it does with most WR's.

I won't fall for this. Cut him immediately. He is soft! I saw him make a really common mistake on his first NFL catch ever. He'll never amount to anything.
