    Agreed.
And as I see it there is just different ways of looking at how to fix that problem i guess.
Some favor the ways of laws and regulations that make guns less easy to come by (for the general public and dimwit criminals alike).
Others favor arming themselves so they can fight back if the need arises.

Of course the tool kills people.

A person has the intention to kill someone they still need a gun to do it. You can't kill someone with a Q-tip.

    a) room full of innocent vunerable babies with cash on a table.

    b) room full of innocent vunerable babies with cash and a gun on a table.

Which group of innocent vunerable babies are in the most danger?

    answer group a

why, because any criminal will take the softer of two equal targets, in this case group a
even though there is potential danger to group b from the gun, the danger is not random. In order for the danger posed by the gun to become actual danger a direct act must be performed to transform potential danger into actual danger. But at all times the deterrant of the gun acts to protect group b, without any direct act being performed on the gun.

now lets look at a more immenent danger

    c) room full of innocent vunerable babies and a hungry wolf.

    d) room full of innocent vunerable babies and a hungry wolf with a gun on a table.

now which group is in the most danger?

    answer both equally

the danger is equal as the gun cannot deter a hungry wolf and the babies are incapable of using the gun properly

now lets look at a more immenent danger with an adult capable of using a gun present

    e) unarmed babysitter watching a room full of innocent vunerable babies and a hungry wolf.

    f) armed babysitter watching a room full of innocent vunerable babies and a hungry wolf.

now which group is in the most danger?

    answer e

group e is no safer from the immenent danger than group c or d. Meanwhile group f has additional protein in their diet thanks to a gun
