LOL I meant in terms of actual play. What was it that allowed him the success. What is it they the defenses did (or can do this year) to stop him?

Get better at defending the Pistol and read option offense. If I was a defensive coordinator I would hit him as hard as a could every chance I got regardless if he had the ball or not. I would let them beat me on the read option as long as they were willing to let their franchise qb take so many big hits. They dont have the luxury of having a really good backup QB this season to let him take shots all game!

To defend the read option you need specific players IMO. Jarvis jones was the master at it in college. In the pros (being they don't see it as often) it's rare.

also I think the pistol is just the qualifier for kaep. It allows him a quicker transition to the pros and not having to do nearly as much stuff under center.

The big problem defending the 9ers is the fact that they have legit weapons down field that must get covered and defenses can't really play man. The instant they play man, kaepernick takes off running. That's a huge issue. Zone is good for confusion and such but you can't be the packers and let him just run run run all game.

The qb option isn't as much of a problem as the fact that defenses are being schematically tied to defending the qb sneak.

It doesn't matter if Big Ben is injury prone, he always plays.

    He hasn't played a 16 game season since 2008.

Now for US... Week 1... It's highly unlikely he will be hurt. But by week 6-8, he will be limping or have a broken finger or something.
