I broke the tie. Defence is now up by 1!
False. Velasco has a year of starting exp under his belt, thus he will be about ~5+% better from last year. Not to mention Velasco is rated the 2nd best FA C. Roos/Stewart were hurt on/off throughout the year, projecting a healthy year.. that adds some %. Warmack could be an elite stud, and pickup doubles.. add that in there. Then, potentially adding a FA OG, instant 20%.
Therefore, we're looking at around 71.33% (repeating of course) improvement.
They're "good enough" to be starting CBs on multiple other NFL teams. Are they elite? No, nowhere close. Are they terrible? No, nowhere close. Just average CBs. Would love an elite #1, but I don't see it happening.
May we pray to the football gods you are correct.
I think they are easily in the bottom third of corner tandems. Vern's a much better Nickle corner, where he can flash his instincts better and McCourty is a solid 2 but a weak #1. Two out of place corners... Our idiot staff shoulda traded for Asante Samuel last year...
corner is one of those positions that really rely on another position to do well. I would rather have an excellent pass rush with average corners than elite corners and an average pass rush. Fix the pass rush, and McCourty and Verner look like great corners.
I don't mean we have to have an elite secondary. But a true number one that can do a bit of shutting down can really change the dynamic of what the defense can do. Changes the way you can manipulate the offense and matchups.
To me we are probably 2 really good pieces from having a good D line. That's a big monster DT and solid DE rotation... That's basically asking for two first rounders.
The DT would change the defense as well if he can push and close the pocket. It's a domino effect and I fully understand that. Force the pass early, corners still in good position, good possibility of an incompletion and so forth. I've made some lengthy replies laying that all out before.
So for us....
If givin the opportunity to take any of the three big needs, which do we address in the first if these players are all on the board.
I wouldnt mind Milliner at #10. Go safety Rd 2. OG Rd 3. MUST sign and top FA-OG and Velasco though. Or a starting SS and then go OG Rd2.
But man, just imagine signing Dominquie Rodgers-Cromartie and Andy Levitre. We have the money. Draft Chance Warmack Rd 1 & hope Elam falls to Rd 2. Our team just got much better.
Yea DRC would be a good number two, pushing Vern to Nickle. That's better than what we have. I don't think we have any starting calibre CBs outside our top two.
