Saw this elsewhere w interesting responses...
I don't have any, but love them, and since there seemed no viable option for me, I just voted that I have them and love them..
I've had tons of pets over the years... and I've had my cat since I was 7.
I have a few other pets at my dad's place.
One of my favorites was Max... he was a Rhodesian Ridgeback. When I have my own place and enough money I plan on getting one. I have no no idea how much they cost, but I'm pretty sure we had to pay bank for him.
We had to get rid of him when he killed our other puppy... Apparently the puppy tried to get in his food and he wasn't having it, so he took care of her. We walked in and see blood spread all across the kitchen... pretty nasty. I had a sister who was 3 and a sister who was 1, so my dad didn't want the same thing happening to them.
I don't have pets anymore. Use to have dogs, can't stand cats at all. It seems I am getting more allergic to dogs so I can't have them around me :(
My sister in law has a strange pet outlook - she holds them in lower regard than her personal belongings and is fairly judgmental about the fact that we allow the dogs on our couch and bed. She moved them all inside the garage because she is afraid they will mess up her precious (ridiculous) cow-skin rug. Of course the garage is miserably hot all the time and the pets get little people contact now.. Of course a pet cannot be allowed to destroy your stuff but there are other simple ways to deal with the situation without banishment.
Presently two dogs, one is 18 and fading fast. It will be very difficult to lose him. The other is the size of a small pony but thinks he is alap dog.
I have had several dogs over my life and each one has given more than I given to them.
I am fortunate that such a loyal animal exists in the selfish and uncertain world.
Funny this thread came up, as I'm currently considering getting my daughter her first cat. My son will want one too, so I'm probably going to end up with two kittens. I love pets that behave, I have no time for disobedient animals.
^ good one... Cats and obedience do not exist in the same world. And dogs are only as obedient as you raise them to be..
Ah man, sorry to hear that.. definitely tough stuff.
18 is an incredibly long life for a dog. I wish my bud Booger would have made it to 18..
