Certainly O'Toole was probably the most significant actor in the 1960s with Lawrence of Arabia but look at his performances in Becket and The Lion in the winter back to back. In those films he is portraying the same historical person, king Henry the 2nd of England but the films and the performance are very different.

Even in Tom Hanks absolutely brilliant performance in Forrest Gump you could argue he borrowed some from a previous role in Big. You know he portrayed a man with a child's personality in big and in Gump a guy with an IQ of 75. But O'Toole does not take anything in his role from Becket and bring it to his next film The lion in winter. Extraordinary.

We can wonder what O'toole could have brought to Dr Zhivago had he not turned down that role but prior to his death he was in my opinion the greatest living actor.

As for somebody not knowing who Peter O'Toole was? It's one thing to not know it is another to advertise your ignorance.
