I was pretty numb and non-emotional after the loss. I've compiled three primary reasons (that I actually posted in another thread). I wish this to a constructive, intelligent discussion by fans after a pretty nightmarish and shocking start to this season. I think it's okay to seriously criticize and analyze why this team is the way it is, without resorting to "FIRE FISHER" or "BENCH COLLINS" without really considering the reasons this team is a failure at this point:

    1) Poor coaching in almost every capacity. Strange, almost insanely predictable play-calling on offense and far too conservative, 4-rush sets on defense that stresses the secondary that simply can't handle. More stunts and creative blitzing has shown this is the problem.

    2) Horrendous special teams play after a brazen attitude towards it in the offseason. Fisher and/or the general managing of letting Carr walk and cutting Jones has now spelled absolute disaster. Handing the Jets (and that simply what it was today - pure handing) 14 points potentially was the reason for the loss today.

    3) Collin's erratic play. This might not all be Collins' fault - this could be the result of errant play-calling by Heim/Fisher. There is a lingering theory of uneasiness that Collins is simply incapable of consistent clutch management. He certainly looked about as horrendous as a quarterback can be in the 4th quarter.

This team is a mess for a seemingly small amount of reasons. The core talent on the offensive line, running backs, receivers (they are CAPABLE, IMO), and the defense (when they are coached correctly) is good - about as good as you can hope. When your head-coach says in the preseason that this is the best squad he's ever had in his tenure in Tennessee, and that same squad is 0-3, there are critical problems lingering.

This season could be a nightmare people. It also may be seen later as a critical year for the success of this team - I am confident drastic changes will be happening.

My opinion, no reason to wait for 0-5, Bud needs to threaten Fisher now before it is too late.

The question at this point is, what can be salvaged. It is still early, so calling for a purge at this point would be absurd IMO. That doesn't mean I believe this team is capable of going to go deep into the playoffs this year (far from it, at this point).

    1. Go after any available free agent PR/KR specialists. I'm not even expecting Carr numbers. I'm talking about a veteran that can manage just simply holding on to a punt and maybe getting 5-6 yard average at this point - it truly is that simple. Mark Jones (I don't know if he's even available)

    2. Don't cut Mouton. He's been horrendous, but he's been thrown to the wolves. And with Fuller possibly out for the season and Cary Williams gone, he is a necessity at this point. Justin Miller should also be considered if he's still available.

What is to be done with Collins? Honestly, it's going to take more poor performances to really shake things up in that regard. Collins will have to either be knocked out of a game or perform so horribly, that a stubborn Fisher will have to turn to Young or Ramsey. That, to me, is a potentially nightmarish scenario.

I know it's hard to face, myself included, but putting so much risk into Collins being this teams #1 might turn out to be a huge mistake.

I'm concerned and upset but I'm not gonna panic yet. I remember the 4-12 and 5-11 seasons. A lot of those games never felt winnable. Every single one of our losses were by a score or less. We are a talented team, we just have not closed out any of these games. A few different plays here and there and this forum would be a lot happier. Every week it seems we are finding a new way to lose be it special teams, a fumbling QB in the fourth quarter or a rookie returning kicks when he shouldn't be. We are gonna go toe to toe with pretty much every team this year, we just need to finish.

0-3 feels really really gross. Short of signing a kick returner we cant improve much on what we already have. Firing JF or benching KC wont give us any better chances of winning.

As Titans fans this has brought us all kinda down to earth. That's ok, maybe we needed it. I'm curious the about the player's mindset at this point. Maybe after an entire offseason of being told how good they were, the players got a little too bigheaded. I think we'll see a huge improvement now that we are officially under the radar again.

I thought Cecil did a much better job today keeping Sanchez guessing. The front four did fairly well with the pressure after the first big Jets drive. But I'm not seeing KVB getting close very often and Kearse only on rare occasion. I even saw the CBs playing a little tighter.

As for play-calling, I think everyone knew CJ was getting the handoff on first down. He did bust one but was shut down on most others.

Special teams has cost this team two wins, IMO. You don't give decent teams a short field as the Titans did today and expect to win the game.

I'm not going to defend Collins because he made some horrible passes today. But he also had people in his face and had a few drops on some nice passes. I still don't understand Dinger not having someone hot when they know the Jets are about to bring the house.

Collins is who we though he was last season when he overachieved.

That's a strong point to make. Every single one of the losses so far has been close - close enough for the final drive. What scares a lot of fans, I believe, is that the expectation of this team finishing games should be there. Hell, the core of this squad was present for the 13-3 season last year. The expectations were to have a Super-Bowl caliber, ready to dominate squad at the outset, and the reality is that's not quite there.

I do believe this team can be successful. The talent is there - this isn't some wishy-washy "they have potential" statement one gives when a team is young and just not finishing. This team is filled with veterans that last year were dominating, and at this point look absolutely lost. Leadership is very much in question at this point, and it starts with Fisher. This is not a "Fire Fisher" statement, but clearly, someone has to answer for this teams lack of success.

Well, I'll re-post this..though it may not be rational, but it certainly looks applicable:

'Looks like another 2-3 years of rebuilding after this season. We had our shot last year and choked worse than a cheap prostitute. Say bye to veteran leaders after this season, we aren't going to pay them a cent as usual. Welcome back to 2004-2006. F'ing ridiculous.'

We are wasting a whole lot of talent out there, and other players see it. They won't want to come here. When we got one of the leagues best RBs, Olines, and group of TEs on offense, along with a solid DLine, great LB corp, and 3 pro bowlers in the secondary and we are 0-3, why the hell would FAs want to come here?

We have this kid Jared Cook sitting on the bench, why? Why not TRY to create plays for him like the Chargers do with Gates? At least TRY. But whatever, we are officially a joke, and I wouldn't blame Bulluck or KVB if they walked after this year, its pathetic.

I am extremely surprised that Justin Miller has not been signed for CB depth and simply as a returner.

I will not go into the whole "Bench Collins" thing, but it may be time to start VY. Dinger doesn't understand how to have a safety valve when the opposition brings 7 guys on a blitz, KFC simply has nowhere to go with the ball. This happens WAY too often. If we play VY, it should slow down the rush and allow VY the opportunity to use his legs on picking up 3rd downs the easy way. I really do not like how Dinger has used his weapons such as CJ and Jared Cook in space, they are never in space or mismatched, and this is simply unacceptable. This scenario does however offer the possibility that we end up like the Cleveland Browns and our backup QB performs worse than our starter!!

Our problems on defense are pure schematic and we will not improve until we get someone who can push the pocket from the middle. How come every Defense can get pressure on us right up the middle, but we can't get any push of our own??

    in sum:

    Sign Justin Miller
    Start VY
Figure out how to get pressure up the middle on D(Tulloch!! Hello!)

    1. I agree. I thought Cecil/Fish called a better defensive game overall, and certainly made strong adjustments in the 2nd/3rd quarter. As I said, the stunts, more blitzing, and occasionally tighter coverage (there were some times where the padding was a good 5-7 yards). KVB is a ghost out there on the pass-rush - it seems most of the pressure, when it is there comes from Jones/Brown/Ford. We all knew that KVB and Kearse were going to get less production without Haynesworth, but the dropoff has been astonishing.

    2. The final drive, when Collins was sacked, rushed to throw, and then rushed again on a heavy Jets blitz, was sort of a perfect example of Heim/Fish appearing clueless. Where were the screen passes? EVERYONE, and I mean EVERYONE, was aware that the Jets would blitz on 3rd down today. It wasn't as if it were a mystery. I don't even doubt Fisher or Heim are unaware of this fact. But the stubbornness to simply try the same formula over and over is, in my mind, genuinely incompetent and concerning.
