We had a Wii and it SUCKED! My kids were even bored by it. It crapped out (RROD Wii style), $100 to repair. We passed and got a used 360 and Kinect, my children are much happier with it. I will give you one example why I thought the Wii was crap: look up a screenshot from the "Ghostbusters" game for Wii and then the one for PS3/360. I am not saying this was a great game or anything, and I would post the pics myself if I was not on a work computer and blocked from sites like that. But, the Wii version looks like the cartoon from the 80's/90's and the PS3/360 version looks like a movie. They had to dumb it down to put it on Wii.

We've had 2 wii's go out on us. Just randomly stopped working.

And the one we have now wont play DVDs anymore. More problems out of the wii than the faulty 360.

I lol at people who think because they've had bad luck with one machine and good luck with another it means everyone else had the same problem.

I've had my PS3 since 2007 and haven't had any problems. And it's had heavy use of games and movies.

Now that I post, I bet it will die tomorrow. (Now that I think about it, I've NEVER had a gaming console die. From Sega-Genesis-PS-PS2-PS3. That's kind of lucky I guess.)

Do the newer model PS3's pick up wireless internet connection any better?

My first 360 lasted 3 years and I got it replaced for free. I've had my current 360 for over 3 years now. No problems.

One system breaking over the course of 6.5 years should be expected. No complaints. Even if it did break multiple times, it's not a big deal. You just ship the damn thing in and it's gets replaced for free. The only way it could actually be an issue to some people is if they have no life and can't go two weeks without playing video games.

In my entire gaming lifetime, I've had a Wii, Ps1, 2, 3 (x2) and Xbox and 360 and only the PSX broke on me once.

I've been extremely lucky. But then again the average failure rate is something like 5% so 5% of 50 million+ is 250,000

My first gen PS3 died last year. But that stuff happens. Not going to damn Sony for it.
