Allegations without proof only get you sent to jail if you use them in court...

He isn't the first player so far. See NE at DEN last week.
Don't make me make a duck metaphor.
I just think your view is a little harsh in this instance.
Keep in mind they league issued an apology about the call.
The league would make themselves look stupid to punish a guy that was right. I see where you are coming from but why should Denver benefit (this weekend) from such a debacle?

And no you wouldn't be sent to jail. That's silly.

Where did you hear that, LA LAW?

You might be involved in a civil character lawsuit, but no way ANYONE can give you an jail time for just that.

I'm always saying there's a conspiracy against me. There are people that are out to get me. Even so, I haven't been jailed for my paranoia yet. It doesn't happen that way.

Porter was not in a court of law. And the NFL said he won't recieve any kind of punishement. Probably because there afraid someone might look into it, and find out he was telling the truth.

It sure seemed like what he said was true. He shouldn't be punished for that. The whole world did want Peyton Manning did. Too bad the Colts couldn't deliver when they everything handed to them.

I was referring to defamation of character which probably wouldn't result in jail time (I'm not a lawyer), but since I'm much too lazy to do any research I thought that sounded more dramatic than paying a fine.

Whether or not what he said has any basis is really quite irrelevant. The league is HIS EMPLOYER. Without them, he is bagging groceries somewhere (OK, maybe not but you see my point). IF there was some kind of conspiracy, it would be between that ref and whoever paid him off... not the NFL.
