The NFL fined Titans defensive tackle Jurrell Casey $15,000 for his horse-collar tackle on Rams running back Zac Stacy last Sunday.

Casey said he plans to appeal.

“You are going to have situations where you get a penalty, and you don’t worry what the fine is until you get the envelope during the week,” he said.

The rule I don't understand is horse-collar is allowed on a QB if he's in the pocket. Once out, it's illegal. So why isn't a facemask legal in the pocket? I've always heard a horse-collar is more dangerous than a facemask.

I think the horse-collar is only dangerous if a guy is running while the facemask is dangerous period.

Weird. I thought that was a borderline horsecollar to begin with

I get the penalty but why the fine? The fine is a bit excessive for a horse collar. I didn't even realize these tackles got fined.

Why are we fining for complete accidents that will always happen when people are playing.

It would be like fining a baseball player for accidentally hitting a runner on the base paths.

It happens. It wasn't intentional. It cost us 15 yards. Get the hell over it.

Very common for players who commit one to get a fine. Even Flacco got a fine several years back because of it.

Its one of, if not the most dangerous ways of tackling someone in football. From the shoulders to the ankles, so many ways an injury can happen and its why they are so dangerous.
