Titans coach Mike Munchak said he was informed by the NFL on Monday that officials made mistakes on three calls that went against the Titans during Sunday’s loss.

The first occurred in the first quarter, when officials ruled that tight end Delanie Walker did not make a reception on what appeared to be a solid gain over middle. Officials at the time told Munchak that Walker had bobbled the ball prior to falling to the ground and then losing it, and the play stood up under review – meaning the Titans lost a time-out.

Tennessee did overcome the call to score a touchdown on the drive.

The second incident occurred at the end of the half, when Titans middle linebacker Moise Fokou was called for a 15-yard unnecessary roughness play when he shoved Colts fullback Stanley Havili in the back. The penalty allowed the Colts to set up at the Titans’ 19-yard line and kick a 37-yard field goal as the first half expired.

But Munchak said the league told him Monday that Fokou should only have been whistled for a five-yard illegal contact penalty. If the correct call would have been made, the Colts’ best-case scenario would have been a 52-yard field goal attempt as the clock expired.

“It should have gotten us (out of the field goal),” Munchak said.

Still, Munchak said Fokou didn’t need to be as physical as he was with Havili.

“It’s something you’d rather not have him do, so that the official doesn’t get involved (at all),” Munchak said. “We don’t want that behavior. He can play that smarter than he did. He got tunnel vision when he saw (Andrew Luck) looking over there, thinking he was going to throw it out to the back, and he went and did his thing. He didn’t need to be as physical as he was.”

The third event occurred early in the third quarter, when Titans running back Shonn Greene was whistled for a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. The call came after Greene had clapped his hands repeatedly in the face of Colts safety LaRon Landry, adding a few verbal jabs as well, following an eight-yard run.

“(The league) told me that there was no reason to (make the call),” Munchak said. “There was no reason to throw a flag.

“They both made a great play – a great run, a great hit, and they get up and go. No one hit each other or pushed each other. (The call) was unnecessary.”

Yeah, add to that the down call last night and who knows how many other wrong calls throughout the league yesterday. I'm thinking some of these refs are totally incompetent and should be fired.

We've been getting screwed all year. Glad to see the league own up to its mistakes this time.

This might be my last year of actively keeping up with the NFL and that's just to finish my fantasy season. Weekly I'm becoming more convinced that the NFL is trying to determine the outcome of games as much as they are able to.
