lol why? Exclusives KILL gaming anyway.

And some people have friends to socialize with while doing other things from their tv. I won't use it much, but I could see where a lot of people would.

Microsoft is trying to make the TV/Console/Computer combined. They've been working on becoming a TV provider also. If that comes through and is half as good as they make it out to be- All this combined would be extremely convenient.

Microsoft and Sony are both doing it.

Exclusives might kill gaming, however if Microsofts focus is on getting games already out all they are doing is playing catch up. Which is one of the knocks on the 360, they haven't had anything really to look forward to that isn't exclusive and that was the knock between the last E3 and the one that just passed.

MS did show plenty of exclusives at this year's E3. Splinter Cell Conviction looked pretty good.

That they did, however the problem with Microsoft's exclusives is that they lose a lot of them or pay to get them timed exclusive (Ninja Gaiden 2, Lost Planet etc).

I fully expect Splinter Cell will eventually be on the PS3 (not that I care, I'll get it on 360).

Gunny - that's true. And it's funny listening to all the talk and hype they create in all the E3s where they have announced a franchise only seen in Sony consoles. In reality, though, it's nothing more than bussiness (more games + big franchises equals more sales).

The fact is that MS can't compete directly against Sony when it comes down to first party games because, well, Sony has too many first party studios. But MS does have a lot of money and so they can get third party exclusives, timed exclusivity, DLC, etc. It's a basic principle: focus on your strengths and circumvent your weaknesses.

If I was the president of the MS gaming division or whatever... I'd probably be doing the same thing.

I don't think paying out for a game that will eventually go to your competitor is a good idea. Take Bioshock for example, 360 had it for awhile and now the sequel is going to be released on both consoles at the same time.

But I also think Sony are just simply better at that game then Microsoft. MS paid for GTA4 DLC, while Sony are getting a full game from Rockstar exclusively (whether that changes who knows), Sony are also getting FF14 exclusive (again that may change). Which would you prefer?

It's actually not a bad idea if you're trying to increase your user base, which is the main purpose of timed exclusives games like Bioshock and GTA's exclusive DLC, IMO. It doesn't make a lot of difference for those who own a console already... but MS is really going after the guy sitting on the fence about which console he should get.

If you think about it, a game as popular as bioshock could have been a deciding factor for many when they were picking a console. Same goes for all those GTA junkies waiting for GTAIV to be released before upgrading. If they realize that they can get even more playing time with a DLC, all of a sudden it gets really easy what to choose. It all adds up and in the end it may all be justified.

As for the FF14 and Agent, it's too early to discuss anything about those games. It's great to see a new game from Rockstar but it's a new franchise that may or may not be great. FF14 is supposdly a MMO and with FF13 going multi plus all the many games SE has released for the 360... I'd take that exclusivity tag with a grain of salt.
