I didn't want to junk up the humor thread with a discussion on this so moved that here.

Basically, as long as we keep the forum open to guests, we need to keep the content PG-13. I know too many people who have younger children who like to keep up with Titans news and like to visit the site.

The real issue is embedded videos. Though they original from another site, they appear to be originating from this one. If they are not PG-13, then we have a problem. Often times, people don't know they may be racier until they click it and then it's too late.

So we either need to eliminate all video which violates our forum policy or create a closed area specifically for it.

The first solution is the easiest. We just delete such content and make sure members understand the rules. The other is creating a usergroup as we did the Smack Returners and those who request to be a part of it be allowed to post and view.

    Thoughts?

What if we mark such videos as NSFW (not safe for work) or something similar? Or is that not enough?

Bah, i'm of the belief that parents should be parents! Kids shouldn't be surfing the net without a parent sitting very close by.

So anyway, I think the lounge should be marked for adults only and not kid friendly. It's reasonable to have the Titan and NFL section family friendly.

Apparently, it isn't enough for those less-savvy in the ways of the internet. Some have been marked with a "language warning" but it doesn't seem to work. I guess some think such "language" could only be h-e-double-hockey sticks. :)

I think the problem is that these videos appear to originate from the forum. Since we have a rule against language, I think some visitors expect that to include all content (which I can understand).

On the most part, we're talking about ONE thread. Of course it has a sticky and is 87 pages long but that's the bulk of the concern.

Is there any way to make the embed tag visible only to logged in users?

No. When I create a forum, I have the option of allowing html or not. That is what allows a video to be embedded. It appears the same to all.

Can you make an adult only section? I have seen other forums where they only let members who have so many post or been a member for so long go in that section. Or heck, put a charge on it. Most kids dont have CC.

Yes. I can. But I would also have to create a new usergroup for those who are allowed to go in. That can be based on request, being a member for a certain amount of time, or post count.

And yes, we can set up a subscription area as well via PayPal. But I don't think we're talking about putting the kind of content in here that would be worth paying for as I don't want an "adult" (as in porn) area.
