To me, this is one of the coolest eras of music. Something about the sounds... has a certain mood to it. Problem is, I don't know of many artists from the era outside of the top few. Nat King Cole, Bing, Sinatra, Andrews Sisters, Louie, Sammy Davis Jr, etc.

So if you have any you're fond of... post them. Always looking for more music.

I like people like Artie Shaw, Ella Fitz, Judy Garland- but don't know many specific songs of theirs.

I'm no authority, but my understanding is that a lot of pop and soul hits of later decades can be found rooted in Glenn Miller arrangements.

Hands down.. Cab Calloway - Hi De Ho Man, Reefer Man etc..

I learned about him from years of watching Fred Sanford.
His hair was dyed, fried and laid to the side!

I'm surprised Gloat - since you've publicly bashed films of the era. Your description of some of the music also applies to applies to 30's Hollywood. This was the true first decade of great movies. This was the decade they figured it out..

I like a lot of 30's-40's film. Just not the old cheesy horror flicks.

The cheese of B/W horror was mostly in the 50's.
Many of the early Karloff movies, Bride of Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein etc were excellent films. Lugosi as Igor, man that's tops..

Freaks is a classic Tod Browning horror film, one of my all time favorites.
