Music City Miracle: 14 years ago today

It's pretty real much the most amazing play in NFL history. Historic for anyone that was there.

 

I was moving into my college dorm that day as an RA. I scrambled to get the cable hooked up and Titans were up 15-13 with the Bills driving. Crazy.

I was watching the game, went to the kitchen to put stuff away, my wife called me back through to say I'm missing something. She wasn't a football just happened to be in the room with the kids at the time.

It was a lateral or a very very close too close to call forward pass...we're talking about fractions of an inch. It was called a forward lateral by Bills fans for a while, which doesn't make sense

 

I was sitting at my best friends house trying to calm him. First thing I said was "dude thats a forward pass, its coming back " Then as they kept showing it I got fired up. I was pretty reserved up til they made it official.

 

Bear with me...I am sure I have told this story before, but it is one of my favorites.

I watched the game at Toots in Murfreesboro (lived in Murfreesboro back then). Everyone sitting at the bar was a Titans fan, except for one jerk who "had money on the Bills". He basically trolled the crowd during the whole game.

When Buffalo went ahead...the troll (who happened to be sitting next to me) started cheering and whooping it up. Then, in a very condescending way, he looked at us and said "But that is ok, there are still 16 seconds left....anything can happen". That is when "anything" did happen.

There was no sound on the TV (in the bar) so none of us could hear Theismann when they kept showing the replay. The troll kept screaming (and spitting, if memory serves) "THAT WAS A FORWARD PASS!!!" I was pretty nervous that it was coming back, but had time to plan for the possibility that the call would stick. When the call was upheld, the whole bar (except for the troll) erupted.

After things calmed down a bit, I leaned over to the troll and said "But that is ok, there are still 3 seconds left....anything can happen". The troll was pretty pissed, but just glared at me while the others at the bar started taunting him as well.

Thanks for starting the thread....this is probably one of my favorite memories ever.

 

The pass from Wycheck was a straight line, the throw couldn't have been more perfect, it was a lateral, no but's about it.
