    That's not true at all.

Every major college (and even most small colleges) have at least 2 big men. My D2 school has 3 guys on the roster that are 6'8" or taller. One of my neighbors growing up was 6'11" and started for really good Pitt teams. He got an NBA tryout, but not a serious look. He is playing ball in Europe and I guarandamntee that he'd dominate in rec league.

Hundreds of big men every year come out and only a handful make the NBA.

Huh, yes it is... the point you're trying to make is that you have to be more than just really tall to play basketball and those big men that get rejected by the NBA will get a look from other scouts, whether it's playing in the D-League, Turkey or China. Again, you don't see 6'8" guys at your local mall, if you're that tall with no skill but don't have two left feet, you're going to get a chance playing in some pro/semi pro league.

Guys like Brian Scalabrine aren't gonna dominate at the rec as long as there's decent size playground players guarding him. And he get minutes in the NBA and your neighbor doesn't.

You are crazy if you think that players like Brian Scalabrine aren't going to dominate people that are playing pick up at the local gym.

Uhh, don't know about your local gym, but at mine, it's not all old guys and little kids. At the hour I go, in a pick up, full court game, you'll have at least 3-4 really athletic black dudes in the 6'4" range that can seriously ball and would d his azz up.

We have a bunch of guys like that. Every now and then, some scrub player from UT will show up and surprise everyone and tool the street ballers.

    True.

There are usually a few "why isn't that guy playing somewhere?" types... and usually the answer is found in their lifestyle or some bad choices made.

I had a friend that could have easily played Div 1 ball... and never even made the HS team. Ridiculous.

Barry Stewart is at mine often... and I'm pretty sure he'd kill Brian Scalabrini.

Shawn Bradley is another example of being a pro basketball player only because of his height.
