A third-round draft pick in 2012, defensive tackle Mike Martin has found himself in a strange situation the last two Sundays – out of the lineup.

The Titans have deactivated Martin against Oakland and Indianapolis, choosing instead to bolster the defensive end position with rookie Lavar Edwards.

“We were just looking for a bigger guy, a guy that could help outside at the defensive end spot, to give some of those guys a break on the edge, to give (Derrick) Morgan an little bit of a break on the open side,” Munchak said. “(Edwards) does a nice job teams on special teams also. He’s very athletic. He made a couple of nice plays on the kick-off team, so he helps us a lot of different ways.”

Martin had posted 18 tackles and one sack in the Titans’ first 10 games. He played in all 16 games in 2012.

Idk about that. The kid clearly has talent. I never viewed him as a guy that would jump out at anyone early in his career

Buy if we stick with him I belive he will pay huge dividends down the line

Not saying to give up. And I hope you are right. Just expected more based on what he did last year.

klug and martin's lack of production are due to lack of snaps, not lack of playing well when they get them.

I remember reading that martin was ranked one of the best DT's (rookies) last year even with limited snaps. Confused me why we went and signed Hill because once he got that contract, I knew Martin/Klug would be pushed down the chart and get less playing time.

I really like Klug on passing situations. When he gets time, he makes plays.

Another head scratcher from this organization. Martins played well when called upon, and considering how badly #90 played and I dont think I even saw Edwards, he should have been in the game
