Absolutely not. The pats don't want to pay him, but want to keep him. I'd rather draft a cb with 18 and not have to pay him big for 5 years. If we still need a cb next year then we can sign butler in fa.

Yep I'm sure he leaves NE if they don't extend him.

They will have to rescind that tender to a lower round before I'd consider anything. I think they can rescind it and place a 2nd or 3rd on him. I'm not sure they want to get rid of him as bad as they wanted cooks.

Here's what I would CONSIDER doing:

    1. The Saints wanted a mid round first badly apparently. I would trade them #18 for #32 and #42 (throw in a defensive player if needed), then sign Malcolm Butler to a reasonable four year deal. He'd take it, he wants out of NE. The Pats would receive pick #32 as compensation. Then take a WR and ILB with picks #5 and #42.

    or

    2. Same as above with the Saints, but trade #42 to the Rams for Trumaine Johnson after negotiating a long term deal with him.

Butler is pissed about the Gilmore signing and wants to be traded.
    They have no leverage

Late to the party, but there is no way Id offer our 18th for Butler.

18th pick should be someone you can bank on getting 5-6 years of service out of (if not more), and Butler is 27 right now. That alone is reason enough for me not to want to spend a 1st round pick to trade for him.

But he is good, if his price came down Id be interested in Butler.
