I just got my Mac yesterday. I don't generally take pictures and so I won't use iPhoto that much.
iMovie I will use a little more.

They obviously do since the issue apparently got fixed with no real problems.

I've had my Mac for a week now. I have not touched my PC other than to transfer files.

Every computer will have problems. They are made by humans who have problems.
Mac work a whole lot better than PC. No major difficulties. Downloaded the iMovie update and iMovie works

It didn't have any actual problems to begin with, it just needed the update to be compatible with the updated OS.

Yup. The first thing you have to do when getting a new mac is to go under the apple and do a software update. You'd think they could do that for you before shipping or, at least, put a huge sticker on the box telling buyers to do it.

They should probably have Software Update set to start at login the first time after an OS installation. But it is set to run weekly by default anyway.
