I've talked to quite a few who think it's overrated. Not that it's bad, but are annoyed that so many herald it as one of the best films ever made.

Based on your favorite movies (what I can recall from another thread), you'll probably enjoy it.

I would really love to know what film they think deserves the Godfathers' status. Just interested. Citizen Kane? Casablanca?

Nah, usually some Lynch, Pekinpah, Scorsese, Kubriak, Tarkovsky fare. I'd personally put the best work of these directors before any of Coppola's, but that's just me. I think the Godfather I & II are great works and not overrated, just not personal favorites.

I love GF I and II but they crawl along slowly and practically need an LCN For Dummies book to understand half the time. I can see folks not being into them simply because of the investment it takes to take it all in..

Overall I'm a Lynch fan though it took a long time for come around to liking him.

I still detest Blue Velvet though. The music annoys the heck out of me.Kubrick is severely overrated IMO.A dirty old man who had the good fortune to have his perversions interpreted as art.

Awesome. I hope I do. My friend is a film school graduate, so he's a bit out there at times with movies. But typically stays pretty grounded and not so pretentious.
