Titans middle linebacker Colin McCarthy is out of the walking boot, but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to step back on the field.

McCarthy didn’t practice again on Wednesday. He continues to be slowed by the right ankle injury he suffered in the season opener against the Patriots.

McCarthy wouldn’t say whether he’s dealing with the dreaded “high” ankle sprain.

“It’s just the ankle,’’ he said. “I don’t know what it is.”

Indications are he still needs more time to recover, however, which makes him unlikely to play in Sunday’s game against the Lions. McCarthy said he’s not in a great deal of pain, and has been working in the pool.

“I am getting better,’’ McCarthy said. “I am just trying to get on the field as soon as I can and am improving day to day. I am just staying positive.”

It sounds like this is going to linger on and possibly be something he'll risk tweaking once he gets back.

Coach Mike Munchak called McCarthy questionable.

Guard Steve Hutchinson didn’t practice on Thursday, but is expected to return to practice on Friday.

Hopefully we don't rush him back and make the injury worse, since he's clearly the best player on our defense. Wish he was healthy, though, because we really need him

We're going 0-4 with or without him. Save him for week 5.
