I'd rather keep Gage than bring in Coles. JMO but I don't think he's anything special & definitely not the big threat target that we need.

i dont think we would have to get rid of gage for coles...
i would welcome him here... he is 30... but just recently... rarely injured...

still decent i bet... i wouldnt overpay... too much risk with age and the recent season and injury... but he would be like DMASE again i think. closest thing we've seen in a while at least.

He is a fool.. 30 years old and not quite as productive as in the past he has the option to get $5M and $6M guaranteed in the next 2 years.

If he doesn't think $11M in guaranteed for the next 2 seasons is enough then what will he cost to us? He also thinks that at 30 he deserves a long term deal. The jets don't owe him a damn thing..

I do think he is worth a look as a FA but why would the jets cut him loose for nothing? They will want to trade him for maybe a 4th rd pick and he is worth that. It means signing him to a long term deal for about $6M a year and he might be worth that.. It's just a risk to do a long term deal with him and i bet he wants 5 years..

FYI coles ran a 4.47 40 at the 2000 combine. I always thought of him as a super fast type guy. His average yard per catch the first half of his career was 15 and in the second half 11.7 so he has trended down..

Personally i would rather make a deal for a guy like this then use our top pick on a WR...

I like Coles, he is very tough for his size, and also a competitor. However, he does have some injury concerns, I wouldn't overpay, but I certainly would be leery, he hasn't done anything without Chad Pennington, which is saying a bunch.

He had one of his best seasons in Washington before he got traded back to the Jets.
