Bands like Motley Crue strangled every inch of life from the genre. They MURDERED rock and roll. Much like Alan Jackson and Garth Brooks with country, they took something pure (or evil) and made it 80's pop garbage. They are all sorry excuses for human beings. You could hear Poison on any pop radio station...could you hear Nirvana on mainstream radio? When Bleach came out? HELL NO.

They strangled rock and roll to death. everyone knows that. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Blind Melon, etc...they tried to salvage what was left of a broken music scene.

    22. I know I wasn't alive (thank god) to experience the death rattle of rock and roll, but i've done my research and i've come up with a few certainties.

    A) Every Rose Has Its Thorn makes me vomit everytime I hear it
    B) If you have prettier hair than the girls in your videos, you should think about getting a sex change
    C) The ONLY man alive that could have hair like that is ROBERT MUTHERBUCKING PLANT
    D) Be my cherry pie?

Man that explains everything. My daughter thinks the same way but I'm bringing her over to the dark side slowly and she is starting to dig it....a little. I had the hair and the band to go with it back then. I agree with the Poison song I absolutely hate that song but dude Cherry Pie was pretty cool in the day.

"Grunge" was no different than "Hair Metal". They were both the "it" style of music. Record companies clamored for bands that fit the label. Remember Ugly Kid Joe? Offspring? L7? Candlebox?

Bands I respect, that transcended both eras, are bands like Megadeath, Soundgarden, NIN, Pantera, and Anthrax.

I have 20 years on OneTon but I'm with him here. Hair Metal was what it was and it's a part of Rock history but I prefer my 80's metal to be early, European and very leather..
That said, today's music is the absolute worst. Everything, even Metal reeks of American Idol now. The industry is broken.

I'm not knocking on you for listening to it. I don't hate the players, I hate the game.

My dad changed my life when he made me listen to "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath. I was 8.

Mine made me listen to Led Zeppelin II at age 9. I still think that is the best album ever recorded.
