The MTV unplugged that he did showed me that there was something special there. Not a huge fan of their music - I don't have one of their albums - but they were the vanguard of a new sound, and again - the MTV unplugged show which was put together primarily by Cobain showed me they were artists unlike most rock stars.

Over-rated... clap, clap, clap, clap, clap.

I couldn't stand Cobain then, and can't stand him now. Nirvana was Emo with distortion. Don't understand how he became the face of Alternative Rock. However, I do love myself some Foo Fighters. So some good came out of Nirvana.

    GnR for life. Nirvana sucks!

I liked some of Nirvana, but not a big fan. It did kind of spawn emo which I loathe. 80s metal was better. Hot chicks, do drugs, rock and roll all night and party every day!

i guess it indirectly spawned emo, since nirvana spawned 90's punk, which then spawned emo. but emo came 10-12 years after cobain's death(and has pretty much died since)
    LAME!

What exactly did he do to make him a genius?

I don't listen to metal...I can think of better things to do then listen to guys giving a microphone a headjob.

Genius for what? His songs were not of the "genius" variety, they were simply new takes on old formulas.

There's only one genius in my book, and that's Chad Waldrup. Guitarist of Hopesfall, and has a solo project called ...Of Sinking ships. Dude wrote and played 4 instruments by himself and put it all together for the best instrumentals known to man. Doubt Cobain could do that.

Cobain is on the same level of pop rock bands that he despised so much..mainstream and unoriginal.
