Was Dungy not the upstanding guy he is today before his son committed suicide?

He's always seemed like a pretty good guy to me. Hard to blame him for his son's death... lots of kids kill themselves, and it's not really the parents' fault. It's their own.

Maybe. But any parent would feel it's their fault.

    And it probably is.

No kid or person that feels adored by people take their own life. Not that young at least. That's a lonely and selfish act.

But I doubt Dungy was around much due to work anyway.

They may feel guilty and, in certain situations, they may feel guilty, but I don't think it's really fair to throw the blame on the parents for everything. There's always room for improvement in parenting (coming from someone who knows absolutely nothing about it, of course lol), so it can't be perfect. I never read into the full story of what exactly happened, but I thought I remembered something about his son being very depressed over his girlfriend breaking up with him.

I saw my dad no more than 10 hours a week growing up. Back in high school, I would be lucky to see him once a month. I have seen him only once in the past year. He was pretty nonexistent in my life through and through. My parents divorced when I was 5. My mom had severe depression for many of my early years as a child. I really didn't have much parenting. By the time I was about 18 is when my parents really starting trying to do their job, but it was too late because I didn't want their help. My dad is basically dead to me now.

If you have a problem with the way your parents are doing things, tell them. Things couldn't possibly get worse, so there's no harm there. If they don't like it then move out.

The thought of suicide has crossed my mind approximately 0 times. It doesn't make sense whatsoever. A bad life beats the hell out of being dead.

I'm not trying to sound whiny at all. I'm just defending Dungy and saying that his lack of parenting due to his career (which is the way it was with my dad) was not a reason for his son to take his own life. The biggest problem was communication between the kid and his parents.

    Rex Ryan is a turd!

With some people suicide just registers as a stupid act, naturally. Others have slight brain problems where they don't seem to get the concept of death... or more importantly; life.

But yeah. As a parent- even if there were nothing you could do... you'd feel guilt. As if you were part of the reason they didn't feel right in life. I know I would. Just part of being a parent.

I saw a a bunch of guys looking at the fat piece of chit bellowing from the front of the room like they were either embarrassed to be seen with him or wanted to kill him.

There's a huge difference between management and leadership. Ryan has no leadership.

Who can respect a man who can't even have the discipline to to control his waistline.

If the Jets are winning he'll do ok but when it gets rough, his puffing and blowing rants won't be worth chit.

    'Lets go get a snack'

The way he ended that rant was classic low confidence second rate crap office manager style. No interaction of any kind, head down and walk out without eye contact.

The man is not going to be a head coach for long. Same old Jets.

Depression can affect anyone, at any age, in any class, and of any race.

Depression is for the weak. people should just be happy to be healthy and able to breath the worlds air. we werent even meant to be here. not point in wasting time on depression over stupid stuff like your parents or your job or your sex life etc... get over it.

Be grateful you are able to maintain that attitude every day and hope nothing tragic happens in your life that changes your mindset.

Jesse's rant on depression isn't stupid- just uninformed.

I can't understand depression. So until I learned about it, I just thought people were whiney babies and should get over it. Unfortunately- it's more of a medical condition than a mindset. A chemical imbalance.

But yeah, I can't understand being depressed. Not more than 2 minutes or so- then move on. Out of mind. But not everyone is that lucky.

As for Ryan and his future in coaching? If nothing else- he can take Fisher's job here in a few years after Bud dies and keep this job for 20 years while doing nothing.
