Posted by ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky
The Jaguars don't have a special teams coach, but when he's hired he'll be glad there was a day before his arrival that the team locked up Montell Owens.

The team just announced that Owens, a backup fullback, has signed an extension. No terms have surfaced yet. I am trying to find them and will add them here if and when I do.

Owens is 28 and initially came into the league as an undrafted free agent out of Maine in 2006.

The captain of the special teams unit has recorded a team-high 45 special teams tackles over the last three seasons.

His 41-yard touchdown run on a fake punt in a win at Houston was one of just three plays over 40 yards by the Jaguars all season.

The contract is of note as the first put together since GM Gene Smith took over the post.
