It’s decision time for rookie Markelle Martin

The Titans need to make a decision tomorrow on what to do with rookie safety Markelle Martin.

Martin was earlier this year on the physically unable to perform list because of a knee injury. But because he’s been practicing for the past three weeks, the Titans must choose to either place him on the 53-man active roster, place him on injured reserve or cut him (and possibly re-sign him to the practice squad).

The fact that safety Al Afalava suffered a high ankle sprain on Sunday might play into Martin’s favor. But the fact that Martin – a sixth-round draft pick out of Oklahoma State — didn’t play at all in training camp or the preseason might hurt his cause.

“It’s hard to tell (about Martin),” Titans coach Mike Munchak said. “It’s hard on everyone because of the fact you can’t go on anything besides college tape. He hasn’t been healthy since we’ve drafted him.

“Unfortunately he was limited in practices, OTAs and throughout camp and even the last couple weeks, so it’s hard to get a real good feel for him. And then a guy in that position has to be helping special teams right away, so those are the decisions we have to make.”

Active roster and play him a lot.

Makes no sense not to put him on the field. He might be the only safety on the current roster who's back next year.

Wouldn't make much sense to not try something new with the secondary at this point.

I guess the concern is that he isn't healthy enough to stay on the field?

I say add him to the roster and play him, can't get any worse.

They should make a roster spot for Stanford routt.

Wasnt this guy one of the top sought after defensive backs of the off season?

This season Routt has been thrown at 39 times, allowed 25 recs (64.1%), for 491 yards, 3 TDs. 267 of those yards after catch.
