You can say the exact same thing about the vast majority of players who sign long term deals. Most deals are back loaded and thus as the player ages and play declines the salary goes up and fans complain about them being overpaid. Unlike CJ though I don't think that Verner's skills are going to decline as much with age. Verner's game is based off of intellect, instinct, and being a solid tackler. I do not think that these will decline over time like a RB with elite speed who loses a step. I think Verner compares to Ronde Barber who had a very long and solid career. If I'm the GM I try my hardest to keep the secondary together. I don't want the front 7 learning a new scheme and a bunch of new guys in the secondary trying to mesh with each other.
