Lets take a look at 16 years of pick #15 in the NFL draft. It's actually quite impressive the quality of player that this pick has produced. Every #15 pick since 2007 is still starting in the NFL.

2015: Melvin Gordon - Too soon to tell.
    2014: Ryan Shazier
    2013: Kenny Vaccaro
2012: Bruce Irvin - Super Bowl Winner
2011: Mike Pouncy - Pro Bowler
2010: Jason Pierre Paul - Pro Bowler
2009: Brian Cushing - DROY - Pro Bowler
2008: Branden Albert - Pro Bowler
2007: Lawrence Timmons - Pro Bowler
    2006: Tye Hill
2005: Derrick Jonson - Pro Bowler
    2004: Michael Clayton
    2003: Jerome Mcdougle
2002: Albert Haynesworth - Pro Bowler
    2001: Rod Gardner
    2000: Detha O'Neil - Pro Bowler

Out of 16 players drafted at #15 overall, an astounding 8 players( or 50%) have gone on to make the Pro Bowl in their career. If you eliminate the three newbies still on their rookie contracts, that jumps to 62%! That is pretty good odds in my opinion. Looking at this, it's hard not to want to hold at 15 and see what happens.

You should tell the Browns this information since they want to play football by analytics this year. I bet we could get a couple of firsts for it!

Even the non pro bowlers on that list had respectable careers

I don't think #15 is a sweet spot any more than 1-14, but picking in the top half of the draft usually does allow a top 10 prospect to slide to you. Everyone is always reaching for QBs.

If you eliminate Jameis making the pro bowl last year as the alternate, alternate, alternate, alternate....

#1 overall picks that had pro bowl careers in that same 16 year span?... 8.

    Same as #15. :)

I could even see Lynch get selected before us allowing one other prospect to be available at 15. Or we could trade it to someone who wants him like Denver, NYJ, etc.

Dont see it this draft. I see 8-10 top prospects. Think we miss out on those.

Good stat. The thing about #1 picks is that they usually play on the statistically worst team in the NFL. 15-32 typically are on .500 or better teams. So they have some pieces ready for success. Stick a good pass rushing DE on an already decent defense, and you've got a pretty good chance of a pro bowler.

#1 picks have an uphill battle, that's for sure. GM has to do their job in th first few years for them to have any success.

That being said, since we're the #1 worst team with the 15th pick, our chances of knocking it out of the park are less than a team like the Giants with JPP (pre-blown up hand version)

Plus, #1 picks are almost always QB picks, which are extraordinarily likely to bust, with all the pressure on them, plus having an all-around garbage team to work with. the two recent non-QB #1s were extraordinarily stupid, in Clowney, and the worthless OT pick by the Chiefs.. who cares what his name is.

But even a solid starter will be nice, IMO. We have few of those.
