  1. You can actually add a USB port with the camera adapter. It won't work for every USB device, but you can use it to import pictures from a camera or plug in a keyboard or connect a USB microphone.

And there's talk of adding printing (via wireless probably) in a future software upgrade. Or even with an app.
  2. And on the flip side, you would have trouble finding a laptop that is as easy to use as the iPad for the way people want to use it.
  3. It was designed to do everything that the majority of people would want to do. And if some people want to be able to do other things, they have lots of other choices.

I was wanting to go the route of the hackintosh by getting a little netbook and converting. Problem is, I couldn't find one which could handle Netflix via wifi and that would be a big use for it around here.

It's time for me to upgrade my macbook pro so going to go that route in the next couple of months.

If iPad would design something that could be written on (and it converted to type) or could be drawn on (like a wacom tablet), I'd jump all over it. I think it would be the ideal tool for students.

But with apple, they never even have to fix the product. Or make it technically competitive with other makes. They just slap the logo on, make it shiny, make some commercials with catchy songs and watch all the wannabe-hipster dads rush in to buy one.
  9. Not everybody is good with the computer. A lot of people are much happier with a touch screen than they are with a mouse/trackpad. Hell, even my 91 year old grandmother can use an iPad and she never had a computer before.

The iPad is a simplified internet appliance more than a full fledged computer. That's what a ton of people want.
