I think it all depends on where you're franchise is and what is available... This offseason was a little different with the cap increase, and all the talk was about how the few decent FAs to hit the market would probably get overpaid, and that's generally what happened. I can't think of too many people that really would have been worth making a huge play for in FA. Most of the big name vets were pushing the very last leg of their career, and let's face it - the Titans are year 2 into a real rebuilding mode... no sense in bringing in a guy that will only play 1 or 2 years.

Not that he didn't try with some guys - we made a play for Nate Clements, but there has to be a point where you just don't pay a guy more than he's worth (to your team). Most, if not all, of the WRs available were pretty iffy... and when they're about to retire they don't want to go to a team that isn't a favorite to win the SB in a year or 2. Now's the time to drop our dead weight, try out different personnel packages, coach up the young talent and prepare for more of a long-term run - not a 2 year desperation bid like we'd gotten used to with Reese.
