Three different SEC teams have won the past 4 BCS championships. Seriously, you are going to hold it against the SEC because Florida won twice?

And LSU won just 3 years ago. Do you judge other teams as harshly as LSU if they arent in national title contention for 2 consecutive years? Just curious.

Which is why no one is saying the SEC isn't the best. Until they're knocked off, they have every right to be considered the best.

What I - and probably others are saying is that they're not BY FAR AND AWAY the best conference. Unless you're an SEC fan. (which doesnt even make sense to be a conference fan, and I'm pretty sure SEC fans are the only conference fans in America- but anyway...)

I think some years they have been far and away the best, top to bottom. They were down a bit this year because Georgia was rebuilding and Ole Miss was a bit of a disappointment, so they didnt go 4 or 5 deep with top tier teams. So I would agree, this year, and certainly other years, they are not far and away the best. But I still think it is the best conference in general, though there are years an argument can be made for another conference.

Why doesnt it make sense to be a conference fan? The way college football is set up, where strength of schedule means so much, I see nothing wrong with cheering for teams from a specific conference, when they are playing out of conference. Basically, it ends up making the team you root for look better if the other teams are good out of conference, and with the BCS system, thats a big factor.

It doesn't make sense because the entire reputation of the SEC is built around "being competitive". The teams are supposed to hate each other, and do- but as soon as a fan's SEC team loses, they ride the coat-tails of the other hot SEC team just to feel like they're somehow accomplishing something if they win.
Like it makes them look better, because a team from the SEC won. It's not really the case. No one thinks Georgia is any better because an SEC team won the NC. Most the SEC teams sucked against enough OOC opponents to ruin that one this season.

Like... if Ohio State goes to the NC. I'll be damned if I root for them. Quite the opposite. I'm not a Big 10 fan- I'm a Michigan fan (tears as I say that). Same with the Colts in the NFL. As soon as the Titans are out- I want the Colts, Jags and Texans to lose every game they play.
Not SEC fans. They'd become Colts, Jags, etc fans for the rest of the season talking about "WHOO! AFC SOUTH!!".
    2 people high five this.

I can understand your point with regards to bowls, though I still can see it both ways. But, being a Michigan fan, would you rather OSU be 2-9 leading into the Michigan game, or 9-2? If Michigan is contending for the national title, beating a 9-2 OSU team would carry them further than beating a 2-9 OSU team. That is more my point. Once the regular season is over, I can kind of see it both ways. During the season, I think it makes perfect sense to cheer for your teams rivals in out of conference games.

I don't think it's ever an issue of being a fan of your conference. All things equal, if you've beaten a team, you feel better if that team is a good one, rather than, say, the Texans. A victory over the Colts always feels better than a victory over the Texans. That doesn't mean I'm rooting for anyone. In a game between two division rivals, we always win, because one of them always loses.

A few years ago when Indy was in the SB and ESPN claimed the AFC South was the hardest conference in the NFL when all 4 teams were .500+, i remember clearly a good number of fans on multiple boards pounding their chest no matter which team won, claiming we were the best conference. and it's funny who high fived DW a few posts up too..

I would hate being an SEC fan because I would never want to have to root for my enemy. I only root for Michigan if it helps Ohio State (which is rare but it's happened before) and even then I don't like it. I hear people say they wish Michigan were better so the rivalry would be competitive again. Why? I love seeing Michigan lose.

If your a Tennessee fan please stop bragging. Yea sure the SEC is tough but honestly, Tennessee has very little if anything to do with that toughness.

Yea the same fans who cared about the AFC South being the toughest are the same people who care about the SEC being the toughest. Honestly, I didn't care because the NFL conferences change in skill every year.

Clearly the NFC West is the best conference. They have almost sent all of their teams to the SB in the last decade. Only the 9ers have missed out. Who else in the NFL has sent 3 teams from their division to the SB in a decade?

**This is the same logic SEC Fanboys use**
