You realize that players benefit MORE from a resturcture than the organization does. Players get to turn fairy money into actual $$$ by restructuring, plus the fans think that they took a paycut to help the team ... PLEASE it just ain't that way.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I will argue against this.

The organization benefits more because they are manipulating cap room, which in the grand scheme is more beneficial than one player's salary.

If they restructure and cut the player, it's hard to see the player's benefit.

Did Godfrey benefit from a huge payout before he was cut? Do you believe that he was basically paid off for services rendered? Because it's always appeared to me that he agreed to take less money to stay and then the team cut him at that last minute, basically screwing him out of signing any type of great contract with another franchise.

when a player restructures they take non guranteed future money, usually the players contract money from the current season and spread it out over the remainder of the contract. For instance

Player A has 3 years left on his contract at 3m, 4m and 5m. Player A has already gotten 1m bonus money per season that also counts against the CAP meaning Player A counts 4m, 5m and 6m against the CAP. Team has Player A restructure and the 3m in non-guranteed money from the current contract is paid to Player A now, but the 3m is spread out over the remainder of the contract for CAP purposes meaning Player A counts 2m, 6m and 7m against the CAP saving the team 2m in CAP and Player A converts a big chunk of non-guranteed money into real money. Unforutunatly for Player A the CAP savings for cutting him the next season means that the team could spread the 4m in bonus money he has already recieved over 2 seasons saving the team 4m and 5m in the 2 seasons, but Player A recieved 1m bonus money for each of the contract years in a signing bonus (usually the only guranteed money in an NFL contract) and 3m for the resturcture.

It is a total farce that players are portrayed as some sort of hero for restructuring when they usually get a big chunk of $$$ for doing so. It is reported like they took a pay cut when they usually do no such thing, but they do allow the team to manipulate the CAP.

When Player A is cut at the end of the season after restructuring he loses out on the non-guranteed portion of his remining contract, but that is the case anytime a player is cut.

As for Godfrey in particular seems like Titans changed their mind and he was in fact messed over, but remember any $$$ he recieved for the resturcture was already in his pocket and any $$$ he had already been paid had too be counted against the CAP wether he was on the team or not.

I just can't wait for things to kick off. Sure wish we'd spend some of that money and make at least one big FA signing, just one, come on Mike.
